The CX breaker plant installed at ECO-ISLAND near Beijing in the P.R. of China, started the processing of batteries. The capacity of the system is 3 t/hour of batteries (48 ton daily over two 8-hour shifts) and is considered “demonstrative” for the Chinese standard. Engitec has presently other four plants in China, each one capable to treat 20 t/hour or 100.000 t/year of junk batteries.
The Engitec CX Plant installed at RENEWED METAL TECHNOLOGIES Pty of Wagga-Wagga in Australia passed the Performance Test. The system is suitable to process 46.000 t/year of batteries with the desulphurization of paste and the production of pure Sodium Sulphate, while the smelting - refining section gives a production of 26.000 t/year of lead ingots.
The new demonstrative plant at the Engitec headquarter of Novate Milanese processed about 40 ton of paste with the result to reduce the Sulphur content lower than 0,2%. The smelting of the obtained “super-desulphurized” paste was carried out at the premises of ECOMETAL (Estonia) where the production of slag resulted lower than 4% on the produced lead. The official results and analyses will be presented later on.
The Company ROMBAT S.A. will install an Engitec CX plant in Romania, to process 140 ton/day of lead-acid batteries. The system will be complete with the desulphurization of paste and the production of pure Sodium Sulphate. The production is foreseen to start by middle of the year 2011
Engitec will attend the 3rd INTERNATIONAL BATTERY FAIR & RECYCLING CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION (IBRX INDIA 2010 – www.bfi.org.in) in Hyderabad, India on the days 3-5 March. Booth N. 44 In the same occasion Engitec will present a new Battery Breaker System expressly dedicated to the Indian market, having 5 t/hour capacity.
Engitec is proud to announce the inauguration of a new Pilot Plants Area located at its premises of Novate Milanese (Milan) dedicated to the memory of the Senior Technologist Marco Olper, passed away on August 2009. The first pilot complex is already built for testing pioneering processes for the secondary lead production. Innovation represents an essential aspect of the Engitec Mission to serve the non-ferrous metals industry with the most advanced techniques for clean and safe operations.
Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI) awarded Engitec with a contract for the complete design and supply of a secondary lead smelter, to be located in Villa de Garcia, in north-eastern Mexico, with production expected to begin within 2010. The facility will process 230.000 tpy of batteries and produce around 132.000 tpy of lead through a complete line including 30 tph breaker with paste desulphurization and Sodium Sulphate production, smelter with rotary furnaces, complete refinery with automatic ingots casting.
After the earthquake of April 2009, in the village of Villa S. Angelo the play-school built under the primary participation of Engitec, entered in full operation on September 14th as per the scheduled school start period. The Opening ceremony was attended by Italy’s Parliament Speaker Gianfranco Fini and by the United States Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.
Three important events in this period see the participation of Engitec: - International Secondary Lead Conference in Macau, from August 30th to September 1st . with the presentation of technical analysis and benefits about lead paste desulphurization and other recent innovations. - 13th Asian Battery Conference in Macau, from September 1st to September 4th. where the state of art of lead battery recycling will be examined. - Henan Secondary Lead Industry Summit in Jiyuan, Henan Province the days 2nd and 3rd of September. where the Engitec technology will be discussed with the main Chinese operators of the Lead Industry.
At the European Metallurgical Conference (www.emc.gdmb.de) in Innsbruck, Austria, Engitec presents two papers:
- The secondary Pb slag challenge through the new ULAB paste desulphurization approach, and
- The production of Zinc cathodes from Crude Zinc Oxide without any pre-treatment.
